Onsite – This position requires the employee to be onsite five days a week. Primary work location will be the General Motors Global Technical Center in Warren, MI.
This position may require domestic travel up to 25%.

Shape the Future of Vehicle Assembly at General Motors!
We’re seeking a forward-thinking Material Strategies Processing Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our General Assembly Manufacturing Engineering – Material Planning & Strategy team. This role is pivotal in designing and executing material flow strategies for future vehicle programs across General Motors North America.
You’ll lead early-stage planning in the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP), influencing everything from layout and equipment planning to automation and Lean Material Strategies (LMS). You’ll collaborate across engineering, logistics, robotics, and plant operations to set global standards for Bill of Equipment (BOE), Bill of Process (BOP), and Bill of Operations (BOO).
What You’ll Do

Develop and implement internal General Assembly material strategies: flow, routing, storage, mobile equipment, containerization, kitting, sequencing, and Plan for Every Part (PFEP).

Conduct floor space, dock, and material flow analyses; design layouts for Central Material Area (CMA), kit cells, and sequence cells.

Build business cases for warehousing and automation investments.

Define and standardize material planning metrics across North American assembly plants.

Support launch teams and provide technical guidance during Manufacturing Vehicle Build events.

Integrate Lean Manufacturing, Global Manufacturing System (GMS), and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) into future programs.

Ensure safety and ergonomic compliance; provide on-site support during major launches.

Drive best practices and performance metrics across General Assembly operations.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Material, Industrial, Packaging) or equivalent.

4–6 years of experience in supply chain planning, material flow engineering, launch execution, or automated material handling systems.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, FactoryCAD, and Microsoft Office tools.

Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing.

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Ability to manage ambiguity and lead cross-functional initiatives.

Willingness to travel up to 25% and support program development and launch execution.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Master's in supply chain management, Operations Management, Logistics Operations, Robotics, Engineering or Equivalent

Working level experience at a Vehicle Assembly Plant

Familiarity with GM systems: Manufacturing General Operations (MGO), Plant Production System (PPS), Global Enterprise Production Information and Control System (GEPICS), and Scheduling Execution Platform (SEP).

Project Management Professional Certification
