Job Description
We are seeking a Lidar Integration & Test (I&T) Engineer with hands-on experience in the design, integration, testing, and analysis of advanced Light Detection and Ranging (Lidar) systems for aerospace applications. This position offers the opportunity to contribute across the full development lifecycle—from concept development to flight qualification.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the design and analysis of optical, opto-mechanical, and electro-optical components and subsystems that comprise advanced Lidar instruments.
- Contribute to system-level analysis for instrument design, calibration, and verification.
- Develop and execute test plans, collaborating closely with hardware and software teams.
- Analyze Lidar data for accuracy, perform system calibration, and troubleshoot technical issues during development and deployment.
- Participate in trade studies and recommend system architecture and design approaches.
- Evaluate design concepts to assess development and manufacturing risks and propose risk mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including engineers, technicians, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel.
- Prepare technical documentation including test procedures, reports, and technical presentations.
- Support and present at project-level reviews and design milestone meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- MS degree or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5–7 years of experience in lidar systems design, analysis, and testing within the aerospace industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience with Lidar system design, data processing, and troubleshooting.
- Background in space-qualified optical systems is highly desirable.
- Comfortable working in cross-disciplinary teams and across multiple engineering domains.
- Familiarity with all phases of optical subsystem development: from conceptual layout to alignment and prototyping.
- Experience performing system trade studies, tolerance analysis, and optical performance assessments.
- Demonstrated ethical and professional behavior in line with company values.
Complementary Skills (Preferred but Not Required)
- Experience with NASA flight hardware development processes and standards.
- Familiarity with FRED software for stray light analysis.
Basic Compensation:
$127,700.00 - $191,600.00
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
