On-site This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Flint Engine Operations in Flint, Michigan on a full-time basis.
The Role
At GM environmental, we are geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an Environmental Engineer at General Motors, you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to build and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site. As an environmental engineer, you will be working in an exciting manufacturing environment and be a part of a team fulfilling GM’s Vision of Zero, Zero, Zero.
What You'll Do

Focus on driving consistent environmental stewardship programs.

Engage with local regulatory agencies.

Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges.

Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems.

Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies and provide long-term environmental solutions.

Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance.

Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, schedule and perform compliance testing.

Be the single point of contact for all Environmental Operations at the facility.

Be apart of the greater Flint Complex Team (4 locations/facilities total) to support peers, flow to work at other locations, and collaborate to improve systems and standardization.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or a related science

Experience in environmental engineering or related sciences and/or regulations, including Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, and/or Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements, or other media

Demonstrated ability to execute projects

Ability to self-motivate and thrive in an independent work setting

Experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation
