KBR is seeking a Systems Administrator to join our Corporate IT team in Colorado Springs, CO, supporting the administration, configuration, and optimization of critical data systems, including servers, desktops, storage devices, and peripheral equipment. In this role, you will oversee hardware, software, and operating systems to ensure stability, security, and optimal performance across the environment. You will work closely with cross-functional IT teams to troubleshoot complex issues, enhance system reliability, and drive operational efficiency. This position provides the opportunity to apply your technical expertise, lead small-scale initiatives, and contribute to a high-performing, solutions-driven technology team. This is a full-time, on-site position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize enterprise IT infrastructure, including servers, desktops, zero clients, storage devices, and virtualization platforms, to ensure system stability and performance
- Install, configure, and upgrade operating systems (Windows, Linux) and virtualization environments (VMware) in accordance with security and configuration management best practices
- Implement and monitor system security controls, ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity directives, STIG requirements, and RMF authorization standards
- Administer infrastructure components such as servers, databases, HBSS, syslog servers, and endpoint protection solutions to maintain secure and reliable operations
- Perform routine system maintenance, including patching, backups, recovery procedures, and system restores, to ensure data protection and business continuity
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network systems, collaborating with internal IT and security teams to resolve incidents efficiently
- Develop, document, and refine processes to improve system administration efficiency and alignment with industry and organizational standards
- Prepare, review, and implement configuration change requests; actively participate in Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings to ensure proper change management
- Identify potential risks, vulnerabilities, or inefficiencies within system configurations and recommend mitigation strategies to enhance performance and compliance
- Support infrastructure upgrades and modernization initiatives to strengthen functionality, scalability, and cybersecurity posture
- Maintain comprehensive documentation and system records to support operational continuity, audits, and compliance activities
Basic Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or related field and 5+ years of prior relevant experience. Additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree
- Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a US Citizen. Must have a Top-Secret Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain.
- Certifications: Must have CompTIA Security+, CASP, or CISSP certifications
Technical Expertise:
- Professional, hands-on knowledge of operating system functions, security policies, and technical security safeguards
- Familiarity with Active Directory and Group Policy Objects
- Working knowledge of performance monitoring and tuning, system upgrades and patching, backup and recovery, as well as troubleshooting and problem resolution
- Knowledge of NIST 800-53, DoD 5205.07 Series, Risk Management Framework (RMF), and Joint SAP Implementation Guide requirements
- Experience working independently and as part of a team in researching data, developing analytical techniques, and implementing solutions
- Ability to move, rack, stack, and install physical equipment by lifting up to 25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Windows user account management, administration, and access controls
- Systems Administration experience supporting United States Government classified environments
- Experience applying DISA STIGs and resolving security vulnerabilities
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and system management
- Fundamental understanding of the OSI model and network protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP, SMTP, NFS, FTP, Telnet, and SSH
- Understanding of authentication mechanisms including Kerberos, LDAP, and NTLM, and use of necessary tools to troubleshoot them
- Knowledge of technology areas such as Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Group Policy, and WSUS
- Installation and configuration experience of Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 workstations and peripherals
- Experience with network-attached storage (NAS) or storage area networks (SAN)
- Experience performing audits of key IT components to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines
