Here at Dowty (a GE Aerospace company) at a time of exciting and continued growth, we have an opportunity to join our Dowty team for an initial 12 month fixed term contract, onsite at our cutting edge manufacturing site in Brockworth, near Gloucester.
As the Brockworth Operations leader you are responsible and accountable for leading all manufacturing operations (OE, R&O and Shared areas) at Brockworth and. In this role, you will be responsible to lead large teams to achieve the sites goals for safety, quality, delivery and cost. You will be expected to resolve complex issues and lead cross functional teams to achieve significant results in required time scales.
You will own and influence budgets and operating plans within operating policy. The role requires high levels of evaluative judgment and operational acumen to achieve outcomes. You will need to be able to lead a lean transformation across all levels of the organization to deliver tangible results through daily management into Operating Reviews and innovative breakthroughs into Hoshin Kanri activities.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with FLIGHT DECK principles to achieve SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) priorities
Utilize Hoshin Kanri (strategic alignment) to ensure all operational activities support long-term business objectives
Drive lean methodologies such as Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, and waste elimination to optimize processes
Implement FLIGHT DECK tools to monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity, cycle time, and cost reduction
Manage production schedules and ensure on-time delivery of products or services using lean scheduling techniques (e.g., pull systems, Kanban)
Foster a culture of continuous improvement through Kaizen and Kata practices
Communicates complex messages and negotiate internally with others to adopt a different point of view. Influence peers to take action and negotiate with external partners, vendors, or customers
Establish and sustain a culture that promotes a positive work environment
Coordination and collaboration with cross functional teams across multiple areas for planning, execution and documentation to meet the customer needs
Participate in Supply S&OP to ensure that Operational capacity is maintained at the required standard
Develop and manage budgets for operational departments, identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and delivery standards
Establish an effective communication plan with all stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Significant experience and proven results in Manufacturing & Operations Management
Demonstrable track record in Lean manufacturing and culture change
Experience of building and leading large complex manufacturing/production teams
Sense of urgency in dealing with issues and tasks
Leadership skills and ability to lead across the organization
Ability to build partnerships and trust, while successfully influencing others and leading high performance teams in a busy manufacturing environment.
Strong ability to organize, assess, prioritize tasks, risks, resources, milestones, and deliverables
Strong Presentation skills, oral and written communication.
