Who We're Looking For
Toyota’s Corporate Tax Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Tax Compliance & Projects Manager.
The primary responsibility of this role is to manage all aspects of tax compliance including federal, state and international as well as to drive and lead tax planning projects that reduce ETR and/or cash tax
savings. As such, this is both a structured and unstructured role.
Reporting to the National Manager Income Tax, the person in this role will support the Corporate Tax department's objective to deliver organization and shareholder value by managing risk and providing
strategic value through tax planning.
What You’ll Be Doing
•Manage preparation and ensure timely and accurate filing of income tax returns, estimates
and extensions
•Communicate tax compliance matters impacting financial statements to Tax/Accounting/Finance management and coordinate all issues in real time with Tax
Accounting Manager
•Work closely with business leaders to coordinate implementation of operations procedures to support tax strategies
•Ensure tax depreciation and gain/loss issues related to lease portfolio are appropriately reflected in tax returns
•Manage tax compliance issues related to lease, treasury function and insurance business, including, but not limited to depreciation and gain/loss, debt issuance and hedging
transactions, and new insurance products
•Maintain SOX 404 control of tax compliance processes
•Drive Tax planning ideas, particularly in the state tax space, to reduce ETR and/or cash tax to mitigate the income/franchise tax liability and exposure for Toyota Financial Services
•Manage state tax audits as necessary to defend tax positions taken and ensure audit exposures are appropriately addressed for financial statement purposes
•Act as liaison/SME on information technology projects leading and driving the effort to produce tax specific reports, including testing, data verification, and reconciliation
•Set goals and coordinate efforts to improve and streamline compliance processes to gain efficiency and enhance accuracy
•Work with external tax advisers to seek new ideas to reduce ETR and/or cash taxes
•Other duties as assigned
What You Bring
• Bachelors degree in Accounting
• 5+ years of experience in large to medium size corporate tax department
• 3+ years in Public accounting (tax or audit)
• Prior people management and leadership experience
• Advanced Excel skills (macros, v-lookups, pivot tables, complex formulas, etc.)
• Persuasive written communications skills
• Experience and understanding of tax law, tax compliance and tax accounting (ASC 740)
• Prior working experience managing projects
Added Bonus If You Have
• Masters in Tax preferred
• 10+ years of experience in a similar Tax Compliance role working with multi-state and Federal tax compliance
• CPA Preferred
• Big 4 management experience
• CorpTax experience
• Prior experience working in Financial services industry
• Federal and State Tax planning & Audit defense
