- Support full-vehicle crash prep, crash test, and posttest duties as assigned during daily scheduling meetings. Execute work independently with quality and efficiency.
- Prepare crash test vehicles as directed by the crash prep book and utilize standard guidelines/processes.
- Mount data acquisition and control hardware. Install variety of safety test instrumentation to the vehicle.
- Install cabling and control wiring. Route and secure cabling to avoid crash damage risk. Install crash test dummies and import dummy channel objects into control software.
- Input instrumentation and cable ID's into data acquisition control software. Perform checkout and troubleshooting of installed equipment to ensure function.
- Fill vehicles with Stoddard to required capacity. Conduct test vehicle weigh-up and modify vehicle/test components as required to achieve requested test weight.
- Basic fabrication work to support the repair and/or enhancement of test fixtures or carts.
- Interact daily and directly with lab management, test engineering, test requestors, sensor supplier staff and support operations (build site, photography, dummy lab and instrumentation calibration/repair).
- Clearly communicate status for assigned work and proactively work towards completion of tasks with quality. When issues arise, the technician will raise/identify issues and work with relevant staff towards resolution.
• Qualified candidates to have a High school Diploma or GED
- Self-starter, highly motivated, strong team player with a positive attitude; excellent communication skills
- Mechanical background
- General machine shop and hand tool skills and knowledge
- Basic welding skills and knowledge a plus
- Nearly continuous standing, walking about the facility, crouching / kneeling, driving a vehicle transporter, driving a personnel carrier
- Ability to work (days or afternoons) and potential overtime based off workload
- Be willing to work in other VEV Test Facilities as needed
- Reliable personal vehicle for travel to and from work location.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree in Automotive Technology and/or experience in a crash/safety test facility.
