Design Release Engineer – Airbags

Overview
Our high profile automotive client is seeking a Design Release Engineer (DRE) with expertise in airbag systems to lead the design, development, and release of components from concept through production. This role involves cross-functional collaboration with suppliers, testing, manufacturing, and purchasing teams to ensure high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant safety systems.
Responsibilities
- Design and release airbag systems, components, and assemblies.
- Develop and mature components from concept through production.
- Establish and meet targets for cost, investment, weight, performance, and quality.
- Coordinate engineering designs with purchasing, suppliers, testing, and manufacturing teams.
- Ensure quality of components and subsystems using 3D CAD and technical drawings.
- Collaborate with suppliers to define specifications and requirements.
- Provide technical support and conduct root cause analysis for development issues.
- Prepare documentation and reports based on engineering inputs.
- Lead and participate in design reviews.
- Support cost reduction initiatives, product improvements, and prototype/production builds.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Travel as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Automotive, or Manufacturing preferred).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in airbag system development.
- At least 1 year of experience with curtain airbags.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer (DRE).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including materials, dynamics, and occupant safety.
- Familiarity with automotive crashworthiness legislation.
- Experience with DFMEA and GD&T.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and drawing creation/modification (CATIA preferred).

Job Type: Contract
Pay: $50.25 - $60.24 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
