Job Overview
Are you ready to be a part of something BIG? Komatsu is searching for a Quality Engineer to support our Longview, Texas facility. As a key member of our quality assurance team, this Quality Engineer position will specialize in end-of-line (EOL) loader assembly processes and will be an instrumental part in ensuring conformance to the highest quality standards for the world’s largest front-end loader. Key Job Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve quality control procedures for end‑of‑line and assembly processes to ensure compliance with Komatsu quality standards and customer requirements.
- Own end‑of‑line quality gates, final inspection / test criteria, and acceptance standards to ensure only conforming products are released to the customer.
- Conduct regular process, product, and layered audits to ensure quality, safety, and process conformance, and drive timely closure of findings.
- Own Juhin / Product Issues as an assigned Project Manager or Technical Lead, including problem definition, root cause analysis, interim containment, permanent corrective actions, and recurrence prevention.
- Lead and facilitate root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action activities (8D, A3, 5‑Why, Fishbone), ensuring actions are effective, verified, and sustained.
- Lead containment activities (holds, controlled shipping, sorting, rework, deviation management) for internal, supplier, and customer‑identified quality issues to protect the customer and minimize risk.
- Interface with Customer Quality / Voice of Customer (VOC) teams on quality escapes, warranty claims, and field issues, ensuring robust corrective actions and feedback into manufacturing and design processes.
- Develop, maintain, and improve PFMEAs and Control Plans, ensuring alignment with actual assembly risks, end‑of‑line inspection points, and historical defect trends.
- Apply SPC, process capability analysis, and statistical methods to monitor assembly process performance, identify trends, and prevent defects before they occur.
- Support and/or lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities to ensure inspection and test methods are accurate, repeatable, and reliable.
- Support APQP, NPI, and launch readiness activities, ensuring inspection plans, quality documentation, training, and controls are established prior to production release.
- Evaluate and support engineering changes ensuring quality risks are assessed, mitigated, and documented prior to implementation.
- Develop and maintain quality metrics and dashboards to monitor KPIs, identify trends, and drive reduction of Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Ensure product and process traceability requirements are defined, maintained, and auditable for end‑of‑line and assembly operations.
- Support and maintain QMS processes and documentation, including SAP Quality Module transactions, inspection plans, quality notifications, technical reviews, and recurring prevention activities.
- Support ISO 9001 internal audits ensuring compliance and effective corrective action closure.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for assembly and end‑of‑line quality, advising manufacturing leaders and support staff on quality risks, decisions, and improvements.
- Champion a culture of quality excellence, continuous improvement, and change leadership across the plant.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, engineering, service, or a related field demonstrating the competencies required for this role.
- Proven experience developing, implementing, and sustaining quality control processes in a manufacturing or assembly environment.
- Hands‑on experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical assemblies, preferably in heavy equipment or industrial machinery.
- Demonstrated ability to lead root cause analysis and corrective action activities using structured problem‑solving methods (8D, A3, 5‑Why, Fishbone, Six Sigma).
- Working knowledge of quality methods, statistical tools, and corrective/preventive action systems.
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (QMS); familiarity with ISO 9001 requirements preferred.
- Experience with SAP Quality Module (QM) or similar ERP quality systems preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze quality data and KPIs to drive decision‑making and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and levels of the organization, as well as with customers and suppliers.
- Background in surface mining machinery or equivalent heavy industrial equipment preferred.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification or experience preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing and shop‑floor environment.
Hiring Range
At Komatsu, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays $NA. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including experience and location.
