About the opportunity
Energy Programmes is one of our newest Business Units and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Energy Power station.
Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.
Are you an ambitious Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in piping design, manufacturing, or welding? Looking to step into a Technical Engineering role on one of the UK's most complex nuclear engineering projects?
This is an opportunity to support the RMI Contract Engineering Lead (CEL) on Hinkley Point C—providing technical assurance, document reviews, and design validation for safety‑critical insulation systems. Key responsibilities:
- Review and validate piping calculations, layouts, contractor design files, and manufacturing documentation.
- Perform basic engineering calculations to confirm design intent.
- Assess compliance against ISO standards and multiple specifications.
- Provide technical insight into manufacturing and welding processes, including spot‑welded assemblies.
- Act as a Technical Lead, supporting issue resolution and alignment with mechanical/piping design sequences.
- Collaborate closely with the RMI Contract Engineering Lead.
Qualifications
- Degree (MSc/BEng/MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Experience in piping design, nuclear or major engineering project background desirable.
- Strong skills in document reviews, compliance checks, and navigating engineering standards.
- Good understanding of manufacturing/welding fundamentals.
- Someone approaching chartership, capable of independent technical judgement.
- Excellent communication and a proactive, problem‑solving mindset.
