Purpose and Scope:
The TRAP Mechanic supports the Global Positioned Materiel Services (GPMS) Prepositioning Program by performing receipt, inspection, storage, handling, maintenance, reconstitution, accountability, and shipment of Tanks, Racks, Adapters, and Pylons (TRAP). This role ensures all TRAP assets are maintained at maximum serviceability in compliance with applicable USAF Technical Orders, Performance Work Statement (PWS), and quality management directives. In addition, the position supports Technical Order (TO) accountability and distribution functions, ensuring required technical data, publications, and manuals are properly maintained, accessible, and compliant with USAF Technical Order management requirements.
Essential Responsibilities:
TRAP Mechanic
- Understands and consistently observes all applicable security, safety, and environmental standards during maintenance operations at assigned sites and TDY locations.
- Takes appropriate action to stabilize emergency situations and protect personnel, equipment, and assets.
- Safely operates diversified test, handling, lifting, and towing equipment.
- Performs inventory control and accountability to ensure tracking of all TRAP resources.
- Executes assigned maintenance workload in accordance with USAF technical data, quality management directives, and established maintenance procedures.
- Maintains assigned TRAP assets to maximum serviceable standards, including corrosion control, to meet or exceed minimum critical levels.
- Repairs and fabricates TRAP containers and components IAW military specifications.
- Uses and complies with required technical data and documentation in accordance with TO 00-5-2 and the 00-20 series.
- Prepares, configures, and certifies TRAP assets for air, sea, and surface transportation.
- Submits timely and accurate serviceability, inspection, and maintenance records.
Technical Order Distribution Officer (TODO)
- Supports accountability and compliance of USAF Technical Orders, publications, manuals, and forms in accordance with TO 00-5-1 and applicable directives.
- Maintains access to required technical data libraries (electronic and/or hard copy) to support TRAP maintenance and operational requirements.
- Assists with requisitioning, processing, and tracking of technical publications and forms through ETIMS-JCALS or other approved systems.
- Ensures personnel have access to current, accurate, and approved technical data.
- Coordinates with site leadership and external agencies, as required, to resolve technical data discrepancies or availability issues.
- Assists in preparing documentation, correspondence, and briefings related to technical order status and compliance.
- Ensures compliance with the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and applicable Quality Management System (ISO 9001) requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of mission and program requirements.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- USAF Armament Technical School or equivalent military technical school preferred
- Must have a minimum of two years’ experience operating diversified test equipment.
- Must be able to compute simple arithmetic calculations.
- May be required to operate material handling equipment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and ability to obtain host nation driver’s license.
- Preferred completion of formal electronic training with some mechanical training
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
- Works in maintenance shop or warehouse environment and may be required to work outdoors for extended periods.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment
- Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to prescribed procedures and as required for task being performed
- Physically capable of performing all required duties; capable of lifting/pushing/pulling minimum of 50 lbs. and performing extensive work handling/lifting equipment.

Service Contract Act (SCA) Compensation & Benefits:
This is an hourly, overtime-eligible position that falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA). In accordance with the Health and Welfare provisions of the SCA, and in addition to your base hourly rate, you may be eligible to receive an additional health and welfare payment for each hour you work to ensure compliance with the minimums set forth by the act. The amount you are entitled to receive will vary depending upon the fringe benefits you select now and in the future.
