Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
The Senior Technical Consultant is at the intersection of customer needs, technical expertise, and commercial success. This role brings mining operations to life by solving our customer's challenges into optimized fleet and site solutions that drive uptime, productivity, and measurable business value.
You will be a technical sales Subject Matter Expert (SME), working side‑by‑side with the Commercial Managers, supporting Mining and Quarry customers across key product families, including loading tools, trucks, and support equipment.
What You’ll Do
As a trusted technical advisor, you will support Job Site Solutions (JSS) go‑to‑market initiatives by helping customers rethink how their sites operate — from individual machines to full fleet strategies. You will collaborate closely with Dealers, Caterpillar Product Application Specialists, and internal teams to turn insight into action.
Be the technical voice at the table, supporting the JSS Global Commercial Team by analyzing customer sites and identifying opportunities to improve production, uptime, and maintenance performance.
Design optimized fleet and site solutions, developing fleet models and machine recommendations that align with customer production targets and operating conditions.
Build and present total cost of ownership (TCO) and economic models that clearly demonstrate customer value and support confident decision‑making.
Partner closely with JSS Commercial Managers to co‑create solutions that meet customers’ production, cost, and operational objectives.
Deliver application expertise at the point of sale, helping customers understand how equipment and technology work together to improve outcomes.
Conduct product performance and site efficiency studies, translating data into practical recommendations customers can act on.
Serve as a connector between customers, Dealers, and internal teams to ensure solutions are feasible, aligned, and commercially compelling.
Why This Role Matters
This is not a back‑office technical role. It’s a front‑line, relationship‑driven position where your ability to communicate, influence, and collaborate is just as important as your technical and analytical depth. Your work directly shapes customer outcomes, supports commercial wins, and reinforces Caterpillar’s position as a trusted partner in mining and quarry operations.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence: Experience in application engineering, product support, technical sales, site performance, or fleet optimization.
Products and Services: Experience in mining, quarry, heavy equipment, or industrial operations. Ability to design and model optimized fleets aligned to customer KPIs (production, cost/ton, availability, utilization). Strong analytical skills to develop: fleet sizing and equipment match models, production simulations, scenario comparisons.
Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in selection of machines, understanding their operations, identifying opportunities, modeling sites and the ability to leverage that information in supporting the creation of customized JSS solutions.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment. Equally strong in data, people, and problem‑solving
Effective Communications: Strong customer engagement and influencing skills at multiple organizational levels. Confidence serving as the technical voice at the table.
Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.
