Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a NGIS Warehouse Specialist to support unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Summary
The Shipwright assists in the construction and repair of ships or boats according to blueprints.
Principal Accountabilities
- Constructs or repairs ships, following blueprints or ship's plans: sights, plots, and marks reference points and lines on building dock or shipway to maintain alignment of vessel during construction or repair, using transit, plumb bob, tapes, and levels
- Builds keel and bilge blocks, cradles, and shoring for supporting ships in dry-dock, marine railways, shipways, or building docks, using woodworking hand-tools and power tools
- Fabricates and installs furring pieces, aprons, uprights, and other wood framing in ship
- Spikes or bolts metal fittings, plates, and bulkheads to wooden parts of ship, using brace and bits, augers, mauls, and wrenches
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skills
- Must be familiar with determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job, repairing machines or systems using the needed tools, and controlling operations of equipment or systems
- Able to perform manual work
- Good manual dexterity with the ability to use tools and machinery
- Safety awareness
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Technical aptitude
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
Experience & Education
- Five (5) years related experience preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Additional experience/education may be required by contract or assignment
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
- Must be able to lift a minimum weight of 50 lbs
- Stand for prolonged periods of time
- Must have the ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions
