Job Description
Role Purpose:
The Contracts Specialist resides in the Intellectual Property (IP) Innovation, Technology, and Policy team, which provides strategic legal and policy counsel to NBCUniversal divisions worldwide on disruptive technologies, and negotiates transactions that leverage AI and other new technologies. Working closely with the team’s lawyers and administrative staff, the Contracts Specialist will support a wide range of matters relating to the drafting, negotiation, and oversight of agreements, including NDAs, AI-related agreements, IP licenses, and similar contracts. The Contracts Specialist will also assist with IP due diligence for M&A transactions and help the team design and implement tools to automate and track transactional processes. This role reports to the Sr. Counsel, IP Innovation, Technology, and Policy and requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and excellent analytical and organizational skills.
Responsibilities:
- Independently draft and review various form agreements – including NDAs, AI-related agreements, IP licenses, and similar contracts – as well as related correspondence for a range of contractual matters and clients
- Prepare short-form license agreements, amendments, and any other legal documents as needed
- Identify, research, and help resolve business, legal, and policy issues, providing ongoing advice and support to clients and colleagues
- Help the team compile and distribute training materials and guidance for clients and other legal teams
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and collaboration within the team’s practice, including designing and implementing tools to automate and track transactional processes
- Proactively develop and maintain policies, procedures, forms, and best practices to support process improvements and drive consistency
- Contribute to special projects and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of relevant experience in a professional role requiring organizational skills and careful attention to detail, preferably either at a law firm or comparable corporate setting
- Excellent verbal, presentation, and written skills with the ability to discuss legal issues in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner
- Self-directed; able to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Outlook, Excel, and Word), internet sources, and the ability to master relevant NBCU applications
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools and an interest in developing ways to deploy these tools to improve our practices
- Exceptional critical thinking skills
- Interested in learning and analyzing legal issues arising from new technologies
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience in contract management, data entry, and document assembly
- Experience directly negotiating with counterparties’ legal representatives
- Excellent planning and prioritization skills with the ability to quickly adapt to change
- Comfortable with ambiguity
- Proven ability to foster and maintain working relationships, internally and externally
- Intellectually curious with willingness to learn about the intersection of IP, technology, AI, and media & entertainment
Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the Universal City, CA office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary Range: $65,000 - $85,000.
