Description:You will be the Welder - Aircraft Comb for the Fabrication Team which is responsible for producing high‑quality welded assemblies for aircraft structures.
What You Will Be Doing
As the Welder - Aircraft Comb you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and inspecting a variety of welding processes to fabricate critical aircraft components.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Set up and operate gas, electric‑arc, inert‑gas‑arc, carbon‑arc, and orbital‑tube welding equipment.
- Read and interpret detailed assembly blueprints, loft data, and sketches to ensure accurate weld placement.
- Apply material‑specific welding techniques that minimize warping, distortion, and residual stress.
- Operate single‑ and multi‑head profile‑cutting torch machines and perform precision metal‑cutting operations.
- Verify shop orders, record material disbursement, and use precision measuring instruments and shop mathematics to confirm dimensional compliance.

Basic Qualifications:A Candidate is required to have the following minimum levels of experience:
Three years of documented experience which includes electric arc, gas tungsten arc, and gas metal arc welding processes.
Candidate is required to be proficient in multiple processes of welding and will be required to demonstrate proficiency prior to hire. Candidate must be able to read and interpret detail assembly blueprints.
Desired Skills:Have certification from: The American Welding Society document D17.1 “Specification for Fusion Welding for Aerospace Applications” is the industry standard that covers weld operator qualification and is the basis for certification at LM Aero.
The following items summarize the required knowledge and skills to be demonstrated by a candidate for the job of aerospace weld operator using GTAW:
• Shall be experienced in all aspects of the GTAW process including, but not limited to, the basic theory of operation, process fundamentals, capabilities and limitations, welding machine setup, and operator level maintenance.
• Will be capable of making acceptable welds in all common welding positions including flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
• Will be capable of welding all joint configurations including butt joint, corner joint, edge joint, lap joint, and T-joint in both flat sheet and tube product forms.
• Will be capable of welding multiple material groups (steel, aluminum, titanium, corrosion resistant steel, and nickel based alloys) over a wide range of thicknesses.
• Will be able to interpret industry standard weld symbols and shall have a basic knowledge of weld size measurement, visual inspection, and weld defect types.
• Will have a basic knowledge of weld jigs and assembly tooling, be able to prepare basic joint designs, and perform any other necessary steps prior to welding.
• Shall have the corrected or non-corrected visual acuity necessary to pass the eye exam requirements necessary for subsequent certification

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
