Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for understanding and utilizing CPT-4, ICD-9, and E&M classification system coding, working with physicians and others regarding documentation, submitting appropriate information to payers. Responsible for coordinating peer to peer interviews. Directly responsible for the oversight of certain billing activities, account collection, co-payment collection, payment counseling and arrangement and posting of all radiation oncology charges. Responsible for performing various administrative and clerical duties required to support these functions.

- Works directly with registration/front office staff to ensure that insurance coverage for patients presenting for consult, re-eval and treatment been verified. Re-checks monthly for recurring treatment accounts.
- Reviews documentation related to diagnosis coding to ensure that billed services reflect the site specific diagnosis
- Verifies patients benefits, provides copay and or deductibles due from patient at time of service. Makes sure patient demographics and insurance information are current and correct
- Submits appropriate ICD 10 and CPT code information based on treatment plan ensuring all codes involved are approved/authorized by payer
- Prepares estimates for treatment and presents to patients. Performs financial counseling for patient responsibility. Tracks self pay or uninsured accounts for Medicaid approval. Insures that Meditech is updated once Medicaid is approved and notifies Manager / Director. Monitors patient status to ensure that SNF, Rehab or other IP facility billing is authorized and appropriate
- Assists patients with options for financial assistance based on need. Provides paperwork and contact information for foundations, co-pay assist and Medicaid programs.
- Provides back up to the front office with eRequests, co-payment identification and collections, insurance verification, chart preparation, scanning documents into OnBase, etc.
- Participates in monthly DMAT reports and provides information related to authorization issues 9. Maintains HIPAA compliance with regard to patient records and computer access.
- Assists with random sampling audits when requested
- Performs other related functions as assigned.
What qualifications you will need:
EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:
2 years related experience required.
5 years medical/insurance office experience preferred.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
Demonstrated skills in organization, verbal and written communications, customer service, following instruction, basic computer usage. Knowledge of medical billing, insurance authorization, and collections, Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT-coding
