Warehouse Generalists at the full-performance level work independently under general supervision and will perform work in one or more work units. They are expected to develop proficiency in the work that they perform and take the Sponsor-specific training indicated below to ensure that they can safely and effectively operate the necessary equipment.
Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of internal policies and regulations that pertain to storage, packing, shipping, and handling of materials (to include specialized materials)
Representational skills necessary to exercise diplomacy, maturity and good judgment while interacting with security guards, Capitol police and other government officials to address entry and other issues.
Ability to obtain knowledge of Agency regulations, policies, and unique Agency authorities
Working knowledge of HAZMAT requirements
Familiarity with Working Capital Fund (WCF) business operating procedures
Working understanding of security protocols and how it pertains to warehouse operations
Extensive knowledge of Washington, D.C. and surrounding routes
Excellent driving skills and a good driving record
Basic mathematical skills when measuring, weighing, cubing material
Knowledge of how to use power tools and machinery
Working knowledge of carpentry techniques
Knowledge of how to operate forklifts (must complete forklift training within 30 days of start); additionally, Sponsor will provide required familiarization with site specific forklifts
Working knowledge of Windows-based computer applications
Demonstrated experience operating various material handling equipment in accordance with safety requirements and procedures
Demonstrated experience safely moving material of various sizes and weights throughout a warehouse as well as onto and off of trucks
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs.
General knowledge of how to operate an industrial shredder in accordance with safety requirements and procedures
Critical thinking skills to make decisions and solve more challenging problems based on research and prior experience with minimal input/guidance from more experienced colleagues that result in predominately successful outcomes; additionally, gathers information from multiple sources to make informed decisions
Reading comprehension skills to understand manifests and other documents
Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
Good interpersonal and customer service skills. Demonstrated by developing working relationships and networks with employees, staff, and colleagues. Anticipating and responding to customers' needs in a manner that generates customer satisfaction.
Effective and appropriate verbal and written communication skills
Flexibility to work well in a team environment
Adaptability to follow correct delivery procedures for each authorized location and addressee
Time management skills to effectively handle multiple priorities simultaneously
Experience with training other employees
Physical Work Environment
Work is performed in two environments -- a temperature-controlled warehouse on concrete floors where there is exposure to moving vehicles, fumes, noise, dust, and cramped spaces or driving a customer vehicle to and from sponsor and customer sites as well as within a mailroom/office. Work involves a significant amount of standing, driving, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 70 lbs). Frequent use of computer terminals is also required, as well as occasional work outdoors in all weather conditions
