Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
Caterpillar’s Large Engine Center in Lafayette has an exciting opening for a Design Engineer to support global manufacturing of large 3500 diesel and DGB (Dynamic Gas Blending) engines. Our design engineers serve in roles that include onsite engineering production support for 3500 diesel and/or DGB engines. This may include conducting assembly fit ups of new designs, providing feedback to design engineers, and gathering input on designs from manufacturing engineers and assembly technicians. This input can come in many forms such as CI (Continuous Improvement) cards, AQEs (All Quality Events), and ECRs (Engineering Change Requests).
Our design engineers are expected to manage these requests and resolve them in a timely manner. The use of 3D modeling and visualization tools is also a necessity. These tools are used to verify new designs and explore other alternatives. The candidate will also assist in evaluation of engineering design deviations and change requests by other departments. In this role, you will advance your engineering skills, assembly/manufacturing skills, communication skills, report development and networking skills. This specific role includes hands-on factory support for 3500 diesel and/or DGB engines manufactured in the Lafayette facility. This position will also provide the opportunity to work on projects within the 3500 Cat Machine Applications team by participating in CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) teams and other special projects.
The successful candidate will interact with a global team and have strong communication skills both written and spoken with desired skills in basic engineering tools including MS Excel, MS Office, Pro/E(Creo), Teamcenter, EDS, VisMockup and drawing standards; an understanding of Visual Basic, Power BI, and SAP business systems would be beneficial.
