At Caterpillar’s Decatur, IL facility, we manufacture and assemble Large Mining and Construction equipment. In this role as a Labor Relations Representative, you will report to the Manager of Labor Relations and will be primarily responsible for presenting the company’s interpretation and application of the company-union negotiated labor agreement, contribute to the company’s labor bargaining position, and administer personnel practices. As a member of the Human Resources team, you will need to have a growth mindset, promote continuous improvement, and help build a defect-free culture. What you will do:
- Contributes to the total company-union relationship through contacts with union representatives and guidance to operating management in attaining an effective relationship with the union. Also contributes to the company's labor bargaining position through interpretation, application and communication of the provisions of the company-union labor contract at all levels of management.
- Counsels and provides guidance to management in an effort to resolve grievances at the lowest possible level. Analyzes and helps develop the company's position for the third step and conducts third step meetings with union representatives with minimal assistance from the LR Manager where grievances are discussed and answered. Prepares a set of minutes from each meeting that are exchanged with the union.
- Ensures that plant management is prepared to answer grievances by reviewing grievances upon request and advising managers on presentation techniques. Ensures that assigned arbitration cases are prepared and presented in line with the company's interest.
- Conducts research of negotiable subject matters and participates in the preparation and writing of contract language at periodic negotiations, and as required, prepares letters of agreement or understanding, with departmental approval.
- Serves as a member of the Union-Management Safety and Alcohol/Drug Committees. Provides training in labor relations to operating management; processes pay-related claims, i.e., bereavement and jury duty; drafts letters authorizing payment for grievances resolved in grievance procedures and writes hourly Personnel Practices.

Industrial Relations: Knowledge of the concept, theories, and approaches of industrial relations; ability to maintain harmonious relations between employers and employees.
HR Legal and Regulatory Environment: Knowledge of HR legal and regulatory environment; ability to advise on laws and regulations affecting HR practices.
Additional Experience:
- The ability to maintain confidentiality.
- The ability to flex schedule both early and late to support a 3-shift operation
- Ability to deal with sensitive issues and to develop a cooperative work relationship with others inside and outside of department
- Good communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Bachelor Degree in Business or Human Resources or related area of study, or equivalent experience

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
