Job Summary:
As a Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, you will lead teams that support operations, manufacturing processes, tooling and tool design, and equipment required to efficiently and economically produce quality parts and products in accordance with engineering specifications.
We are seeking a dynamic, organized self-starter to join our Integrated Components Division in East Peoria, IL. In this role, you will help promote Caterpillar’s values, including a strong commitment to a safety-driven work environment.
What You Will Do:
- Lead and develop manufacturing engineering teams that support plant operations and core manufacturing functions.
- Oversee tool design, assembly, manufacturing processes, cost estimating, systems planning, layouts, standards, and release activities.
- Manage the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of operating methods, equipment, systems, and infrastructure to achieve operational goals.
- Lead the installation of new machines, equipment, and process changes to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing and assembly of quality parts.
Education requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent knowledge demonstrated through professional experience.
What skills you will have:
Decision Making & Critical Thinking:
Ability to assess complex manufacturing and maintenance challenges, identify root causes, and make informed decisions that improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency. Experience applying structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, and FMEA in production and maintenance environments.
Capacity Planning & Management – Manufacturing:
Experience forecasting production demand and aligning labor, equipment, and materials. Skilled in using tools such as SAP, MES, and Excel-based models to optimize capacity utilization and respond to demand changes
Lean Manufacturing:
Strong knowledge of lean principles, including value stream mapping, takt time, and kaizen. Proven ability to lead initiatives that reduce waste, improve flow, and increase productivity across manufacturing and assembly operations.
Manufacturing Equipment:
In-depth understanding of production equipment such as CNC machines, robotic systems, and automated material handling. Capable of overseeing equipment selection, preventive maintenance programs, and performance improvements.
Manufacturing Processes:
Expertise in machining, welding, assembly, and paint processes within heavy equipment manufacturing. Ability to lead process development, troubleshoot issues, and implement controls to ensure quality and throughput.
Performance Management:
Knowledge of manufacturing policies and quality standards, with the ability to guide teams in standardized work, audit protocols, and continuous improvement practices to drive operational excellence.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
- Proven experience driving automation initiatives in a manufacturing environment
- Background in foundry operations and/or machining processes
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification with demonstrated results
- Experience using maintenance systems to support operational excellence
- Advanced degree (Master’s preferred)
Additional Information:
This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week at the Peoria, IL office.

Summary Pay Range:
$112,710.00 - $169,060.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
