Functional Duties
- Applies the engineering standards and techniques for sustaining engineering excellence on the MIST II Contract.
- Serves as the TSIS-2 Launch Vehicle Interface Manager (LVIM) ensuring that interface information between the observatory and the launch vehicle is accurate, complete, and exchanged in a timely fashion. This includes preparation of mission-specific launch packages, range safety documentation, and project requirements documents in support of the launch vehicle procurement and development.
- Coordinate with the TSIS-2 Launch Integration Support systems engineer; TSIS-2 project management, systems engineering, and safety and mission assurance teams; and the observatory contractor to assure compliance of the observatory with all launch vehicle/launch site constraints and to assure that all TSIS-2 requirements are properly interpreted and incorporated into launch services planning and preparations for launch
- Ensures the correct staffing and skill mix is available to support the project. Coordinates ramp up/down of efforts with KBR Project Leads and GSFC Technical Monitors.
GSFC Customer Interface Duties
- Attends customer and project interface meetings.
- Hold meetings with GSFC Technical Monitors to review task technical performance as needed.
- Attends peer reviews and provides engineering consultation services, as required.
Required Skills
This position requires a minimum of 20 years of experience in the aerospace industry with specific demonstrated technical expertise in relevant analytical areas such as mechanical structures. Candidate shall have demonstrated the ability to lead the development of mechanical models of payloads and perform analyses of instruments and systems in addition to having experience in flight qualification programs.
Candidate must have experience leading highly technical teams and in project leadership, personnel management, task management, and budget management. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent communication (written and oral) skills.
Technical team leadership experience and spacecraft project review experience is required.
Education
Master’s in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Travel
- Travel is required on a limited basis.
Work Location & LOE
- This is a Part Time (not to exceed 20 hrs/wk) hybrid position.
LOCATION - This role requires a occasional onsite presence at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) for hardware activities. Occasional remote work is possible at the discretion of the Technical Lead.
Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
· On-Site work performed at GSPC Greenbelt, MD location as needed by the project.
Basic Compensation:
$101.25/hr. - $151.88/hr.
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
