Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Laboratory Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support critical scientific, technical, and operational missions in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be responsible for providing expert-level support in the areas of laboratory operations, design, and compliance. The SME will work closely with an interdisciplinary team to design and retrofit biolaboratories, implement strict security protocols, and deliver training to laboratory personnel to enhance their skills and proficiency. The individual will also provide technical guidance on diagnostic methodologies, oversee biorisk management strategies, and ensure compliance with global laboratory quality and regulatory standards. This position plays a key role in helping Amentum deliver impactful and innovative solutions to critical biolab operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and provide technical guidance on biolab design, upgrades, and retrofits to meet project and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement robust security protocols to ensure workplace and personnel safety in laboratory environments.
- Deliver comprehensive training to laboratory personnel to enhance technical proficiency and adherence to operational and regulatory standards.
- Oversee and ensure proper equipment maintenance, calibration, and relevant upgrades to maintain optimum lab functionality.
- Manage consumables inventory and ensure the availability of necessary materials in a timely and efficient manner.
- Develop and implement biorisk management strategies and policies to minimize risks associated with laboratory operations.
- Establish, implement, and maintain Quality Management Systems in laboratory operations to meet regulatory compliance and improve efficiency.
- Provide expert technical guidance on diagnostic methodologies, including techniques for sample processing, analysis, and data interpretation.
- Ensure all laboratory practices comply with national and international regulatory, ethical, and safety standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for continuous improvement initiatives, diagnostics, and technical projects in laboratory settings.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- A minimum of a Master of Science degree in Microbiology with seven (7) years of relevant experience, or a Doctorate degree in Microbiology with three (3) years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the design, construction, or retrofit of biolaboratories to meet international safety and design standards.
- Proven expertise in implementing security protocols in high-risk laboratory environments.
- Experience in training laboratory teams on technical procedures, operational safety, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred:
- Equipment maintenance and calibration
- Consumable management
- Biorisk management
- Laboratory quality management systems
- Technical guidance for diagnostic methodologies
- Data interpretation for laboratory outputs
- Regulatory compliance with global standards and practices
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications in biorisk management or laboratory quality management, such as certification from IFBA, ISO, or other recognized bodies.
- Experience working with international health organizations, government agencies, or the military in scientific or laboratory-based roles.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be willing to travel or relocate as needed for project requirements.
- Candidates must be nationals of the Philippines and able to obtain all necessary work authorizations and security clearances.
