What You Will Do
-
Participate in a structured research project related to coatings, materials, or testing processes
-
Observe and support laboratory activities, including sample preparation and experimental setups
-
Assist in data collection, organization, and basic analysis under supervision
-
Learn and apply engineering principles related to materials and coatings systems
-
Document observations, research findings, and technical insights
-
Collaborate with engineering mentors through regular check-ins and guidance sessions
-
Attend team meetings and technical discussions to gain exposure to engineering workflows
-
Complete a final written report summarizing project scope, methodology, and outcomes
-
Present findings to the engineering team at the conclusion of the internship
Qualifications You Must Have
-
Must be accepted into the US Naval Academy Midshipman Research Internship Program
-
Must meet all USNA internship participation requirements
-
Currently pursuing a degree in engineering, materials science, or a related technical field
-
Strong academic standing
-
Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals
-
Ability to follow safety protocols and laboratory procedures

Strong written and verbal communication skills
Qualifications We Prefer

Interest in materials, coatings, or aerospace systems

Exposure to laboratory or research environments

Experience with data analysis or technical reporting

Ability to work in a team-based, structured learning environment
