Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Ship Load Planner to support a unique US Navy program based on the island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute accurate cargo and container stowage plans to optimize the loading and unloading of vessels while adhering to operational constraints and safety guidelines.
- Coordinate with shipping agents, port authorities, stevedores, and logistics personnel to ensure timely and efficient cargo movement.
- Work with vessel captains and marine terminals to determine stowage requirements and ensure the stability, safety, and seaworthiness of vessels.
- Analyze freight manifests and verify cargo dimensions, weights, and special handling requirements to appropriately place in the stowage plan.
- Utilize computer-based ship loading software to create and manage stowage instructions and load plans that optimize vessel capacity.
- Perform inspections to validate adherence to load plans and ensure equipment and personnel safety standards.
- Provide real-time problem resolution and adjustments to ship load plans when deviations or unforeseen challenges arise during vessel operations.
- Prepare and maintain detailed reports on cargo handling operations, including load plans, material discrepancies, and operational feedback.
- Ensure compliance with safety, local, governmental, and international shipping regulations during all cargo handling processes.
- Promote effective collaboration and clear communication between all stakeholders involved in shipping and pier operations.
Minimum Requirements:
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in ship load planning, maritime logistics, materials handling, and vessel operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport should be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Must be able to operate and use ship stowage planning software.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce is preferred.
- Valid country driver's license and passport.
- Country visa (as required in line with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide).
- Background in ship loading, cargo coordination, or logistics in a maritime setting.
- Familiarity with international standards, such as those related to International Maritime Organization (IMO) and International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to predict and resolve potential loading/stowage issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ship planning software (e.g., CASP, MACS3, or similar systems).
