Job Description:
Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. The Sr. Manager, EHS&S isresponsible for overseeing site Environmental Health Safety & Sustainabilityat the Suzhou site and nearby facilities, ensuring that all operationscomply withapplicable federal, state, and local regulations. This role directs a dedicated team, manages individual performance, and develops tactical, operational, and resource plans to support the organization’sobjectivesand business goals.
Additionally, the positionleadsstrategicEHS&Sinitiatives and serves as the main point of contact for internal stakeholders across commercial, R&D, supply chain, and other functional areas, ensuring effective coordination and alignment of EHS&S efforts throughout the organization.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
25% -Jointly accountable with Plant Manager/Site Leadersfor EHS&S performance andensuringcompliancewith allFederal, State, local and Company regulations, policies, and procedures.
20% -Lead and supervise EHS&S professionals and consultants, overseeing goal setting, coaching, employee development, and succession planning.
15% -Own and execute the site EHS&S strategy, translating enterprise and regionalobjectivesinto actionable plans that drive risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and continuousimprovement;includingmaintainingISO 14001 certification.
15% -Partner with site leadership and operationsto proactivelyidentifyhazards, assess risk, and implement effective controls through robust risk assessments, management of change, and incident prevention processes.
10% -Lead incident reporting, investigation, and corrective action processes, including root cause analysis, regulatory notifications, and verification of sustainable corrective actions.
10% -Oversee environmental, health, and safety permitting and performance, including monitoring emissions, waste, and other key metrics, and ensuringaccuratereporting to internal and external stakeholders.
5% -Drive EHS&S culture and capability development, including training, coaching, and engagement of employees, supervisors, and contractors to build ownership and accountability at all levels.
5% -Manage audits, inspections, and external interactions, serving as the site EHS&S contact for regulatory agencies, internal auditors, and customers, and ensuringtimelyclosure of findings and commitments.
Provides EHS&S input to business decisions, capital projects, and crisis management for significant incidents.
Required Minimum Education:Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Sciences, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
Required Years of Related Experience:8-10+yearsEHS/EHS&Sexperienceinmedical device manufacturingor related industry with strong regulatory oversight.
Required Knowledge,Skillsand Abilities:
Technical experience in diverse EHS&S areas including but not limited to air, water, hazardous and medical waste, machine safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and chemical handling is highly desirable.
