Surface is seeking a dedicated Machinist to join our 2nd shift Manufacturing team at the Longview, Texas facility. Key Job Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and advocate for a safe working environment at all times.
- Consistently produce machined parts within specified tolerances based on blueprint requirements and job instructions, ensuring quality and efficiency are maintained.
- Set up, operate, and debug CNC programs and machinery for precise manufacturing of complex parts, independently performing layout and setup tasks.
- Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining sequences, tooling needs, and machine settings.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machinery to minimize downtime and optimize production output.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet or exceed production goals within established timeframes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all production activities, including time logs, materials used, and quality checks.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve machining processes, reduce waste, and enhance product quality through innovative thinking and adherence to best practices.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a machine shop environment with hands-on machining skills.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Experience writing and understanding simple shop floor CNC programs.
- Ability to work the 2nd shift reliably and flexibly, including overtime and weekend shifts as operational needs require.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in the use of precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and tape measures.
- Competent in performing basic mathematical calculations relevant to machining tasks, including fractions and decimals.
- Familiarity with machining terminology and tooling nomenclature, with practical knowledge of the operation of horizontal and vertical mills and lathes.
- Effective communication skills both in writing and verbally, with the ability to document processes and produce simple correspondence.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and development to keep pace with evolving machining technologies and practices.
