Job Overview:
The Senior Director of Data Center Site Deployment is responsible for leading the end-to-end process of operationalizing newly constructed data center facilities, with a specialized focus on Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems and the energization of high-density rack/GPU environments. This executive leader will coordinate cross-functional teams and external partners to ensure seamless, safe, and efficient transition from construction to fully operational status, meeting the highest industry standards for reliability, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Planning:
- Provide executive oversight for site deployment across multiple regions/projects.
- Collaborate with project management, construction, engineering, and design teams to ensure infrastructure readiness and alignment with business objectives.
- MEP & GPU Rack Energization Focus:
- Direct the energization process including testing, commissioning, quality assurance, and readiness checks for all critical MEP systems and high-density compute infrastructure.
- Set standards and best practices for safe energization and integration of new technologies (GPUs, next-gen hardware).
- Commissioning & Turnover:
- Partner with commissioning agents to plan, execute, and review pre-functional and functional commissioning activities.
- Ensure proper documentation, punch-list management, and on-time turnover to operations.
- Operational Readiness:
- Finalize and execute site operating agreements and contracts with third-party vendors or managed services as required.
- Lead the recruitment and onboarding of site staff, including establishing roles, responsibilities, and organizational structure.
- Oversee the creation, validation, and implementation of Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Methods of Procedure (MOPs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Coordinate with the training department to roll out comprehensive training programs for site operations and OEM/vendor teams, ensuring knowledge transfer and regulatory compliance.
- Tooling & Systems Readiness:
- Identify, specify, and implement operational tooling and software necessary for facility monitoring, incident management, and preventive maintenance.
- Security, Compliance, & Safety:
- Enforce compliance with all local, national, and global regulations related to facility energization, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Champion best practices in workplace safety and continuous improvement of operational processes.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Serve as main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders during site deployment, including engineering, commissioning, security, IT, and business leadership.
- Provide regular updates and post-mortem reports to executive leadership on project delivery status, issues, risk mitigation, and lessons learned.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze and implement learnings from each deployment cycle to optimize deployment playbooks, templates, and processes for future sites.
