Overview
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is building Oracle Video @ Edge, a next-generation streaming platform for live and linear video delivery. We are seeking a Senior Principal Video Player and Video Encoding Engineer to define how encoded media is prepared, delivered, and played back across OVE-supported environments.
This role will connect player behavior, encoding and packaging decisions, low-latency streaming, hybrid delivery paths, and QoE outcomes into a coherent engineering strategy for OVE.
Why OCI
Build next-generation live streaming infrastructure with direct viewer impact
Work across media, networking, edge delivery, playback, and encoding systems
Shape a greenfield platform with strong strategic priority
Solve practical problems that determine customer adoption and live-event readiness
Internal Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Define OVE playback and encoding architecture for live and linear streaming
Design encoding ladders, GOP structures, CMAF packaging profiles, and low-latency media preparation strategies
Develop or guide player integrations across web, mobile, and CTV environments
Tune ABR, buffering, startup, failover, and latency behavior for hybrid UDP and HTTP delivery
Partner with relay, control plane, observability, and customer teams to debug end-to-end playback issues
Define quality metrics and validation workflows for encoding and playback performance
Support customer pilots, live-event readiness, and post-event analysis
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in video player development, media streaming systems, encoding systems, or related infrastructure
Deep expertise in HLS, DASH, CMAF, low-latency streaming, ABR, buffering, and playback QoE
Strong understanding of video encoding, codecs, bitrate ladders, GOP design, packaging, and device decode constraints
Experience with DRM, ad break transitions, timed metadata, and live-event playback behavior is preferred
Strong debugging skills across client, edge, origin, CDN, encoded media, and backend systems
Programming experience in JavaScript, TypeScript, C++, Java, Go, Python, or similar production languages
