- The compliance function is evolving the Global Financial Intelligence Unit and SARs Oversight Team into a proactive intelligence unit at the forefront of proactive risk management.
- A key component of that evolution is to ensure that the team has a balance of experience in terms of industry financial crime expertise, law enforcement, and specialist intelligence.
- This is a new specialist intelligence leadership role.
- The successful candidate will be centrally involved in establishing new capabilities across all aspects of the intelligence cycle including intelligence collection, intelligence analysis, intelligence development and intelligence assessment.
- This capability development work will include a range of intelligence collection methods that enable the Global FIU and SARs Oversight Team to provide unique insights that enable better informed risk decisions.

- The successful candidate must have a minimum of 20 years of specialist intelligence experience, including:
- formal specialist training in intelligence collection, and extensive experience in intelligence collection work as both a practitioner and senior leader.
- formal specialist training in intelligence investigations, and extensive experience as both a practitioner and leader.
- formal specialist training in intelligence assessment, and extensive experience as both a practitioner and senior leader.
- proven experience of successfully leading large intelligence teams under challenging circumstances, including high risk environments and situations.
- proven experience of successfully delivering projects and programmes relating to intelligence work and capability building.
- experience of working in a senior intelligence role in partnership with law enforcement organisations in multiple jurisdictions, including extensively overseas.
Purpose of the role
To conduct investigations into various aspects of the bank’s operations and/or conduct of individuals to identify and address potential instances of non-compliance, fraud, misconduct, or other unethical behaviour, that harms or is likely to harm the reputation or financial well-being of the firm or may lead to legal and/or regulatory censure.
Accountabilities
- Identification and evaluation of potential risks associated with non-compliance or unethical conduct and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Leading the investigations into alleged violations of policies, regulations, or laws.
- Provision of training programs to enhance awareness of compliance issues and ethical conduct among colleagues.
- Documentation of investigation processes and provision of recommendations for corrective actions and improvements based on investigation findings.
- Utilisation of advanced technology and data analytics tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of investigations.
- Utilisation and assessment of relevant internal and external information and intelligence in furtherance of the investigation.
- Where applicable, fulfilment of any necessary external legal and/or regulatory reporting obligations.

- Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
