We are the exclusive U.S. retrofit installer for LazerSafe press brake safety systems, serving 300+ manufacturing accounts nationwide. We're looking for a transitioning service member to join our field technician team through a 12-week SkillBridge fellowship, with full-time employment upon successful completion.
WHAT YOU'LL DO: Travel to customer manufacturing facilities to install camera-based LazerSafe Sentinel Plus safety systems on hydraulic press brakes. Build custom electrical interfaces and wiring harnesses. Install machine guarding (rear guards, fencing, scissor gates, interlocks). Conduct overrun testing per ANSI B11.3. Deliver operator training. Troubleshoot field issues. Train operators on proper use of safety systems.
THE WORK: Blends electrical skills (wiring safety controllers, reading schematics, building interfaces) with mechanical fabrication (drilling, tapping, bracket mounting, encoder placement). No two installs are identical — machine variations by manufacturer, size, and year keep the work challenging.
TRAINING: Weeks 1-2 orientation with real electronics builds and workshop practice. Weeks 3+ in the field with senior technicians doing real installations. Progressive responsibility through Week 12. Full proficiency takes 6-12 months with continued mentorship as a full-time employee.
IDEAL BACKGROUND: Mechanically and electrically inclined individual who is comfortable doing hands-on work, working autonomously, conducting training. Must be ok with regular travel, home base can be anywhere in the US though some states are preferable.
COMPENSATION (post-fellowship): $60,000-$65,000 base salary + per diem for all travel days + year-end bonus + 401(k) with 4% match + phone + credit card. Potential for company vehicle depending on location. Total comp up to ~$90K.
TRAVEL: 65-75%, typical trips 3-14 days. Home-based — open to candidates anywhere in the U.S.
