Job Overview
The Superintendent – Autonomous Haulage Systems (AHS) supports and oversees the day-to-day execution of autonomous haulage operations and deployment activities across the region. This role provides hands-on leadership and technical guidance to field teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of AHS and related mining technologies.
Working closely with Project Managers, technical teams, and customers, the Superintendent helps coordinate field activities, troubleshoot system issues, and maintain system uptime while upholding Komatsu’s standards for safety, quality, and customer service.
Key Job Responsibilities
The Superintendent – AHS plays a critical role in supporting field operations and ensuring successful deployment and sustainment of autonomous haulage systems. Responsibilities include:
Technical & Operational Support
- Provide direct, hands-on technical support for AHS operations, including troubleshooting autonomous systems, fleet management software, and integrated mining technologies
- Assist in maintaining system availability, reliability, and performance to meet operational targets
- Support field execution of deployment, commissioning, and sustainment activities
Field Team Coordination
- Coordinate and guide field personnel, including technicians and support staff, to ensure efficient execution of work
- Provide day-to-day direction to crews and assist in aligning activities with operational priorities
- Act as a delegate for the Field Service Supervisor or Project Manager when needed to maintain workflow continuity
Deployment & Project Support
- Assist with planning and coordination of field deployment activities
- Work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams to support implementation and transition to operations
- Identify issues, escalate risks, and support timely resolution of technical or operational challenges
Customer Engagement
- Maintain positive working relationships with customers by providing updates and addressing operational concerns
- Support customer adoption and effective use of AHS technologies
- Ensure service delivery aligns with Komatsu standards and customer expectations
Training & Workforce Development
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to technicians and operators on AHS systems and best practices
- Support development of team capabilities to improve troubleshooting and operational performance
- Encourage knowledge sharing and continuous learning
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and site requirements
- Assist in identifying hazards and mitigating risks related to autonomous system operations
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete and review documentation related to system performance, incidents, and field activities
- Maintain accurate records for work performed, system issues, and operational support
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and system performance
- Provide feedback to leadership and technical teams to support ongoing product and operational improvements
Qualifications/Requirements
Education
- Associate degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Technology, or related field
- Equivalent experience in mining, heavy equipment, or technology environments will be considered
Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in mining, heavy equipment, or related technical field
- Experience supporting autonomous systems, fleet management systems, or advanced mining technologies preferred
- Experience coordinating or leading field-based work teams
Technical Skills
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems and/or autonomous technologies
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in field environments
- Familiarity with system deployment and operational support processes
Work Environment
- Primarily field-based role with frequent travel to mine sites, including remote locations
- Requires ability to work extended hours or varying schedules based on operational needs
- Combination of outdoor fieldwork and office-related tasks
