Job Summary and Qualifications
SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (*,+,++)

1. *Maintains CPR certificate and license requirements.
2. * Maintain NBRC credentials for Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist
3. *Fulfills staff meeting, inservice, competency and on-going education requirements.
4. *Ensures safe and appropriate oxygen administrations through the Oxygen Therapist Driven Protocol.
5. *Performs non-invasive SpO2 monitoring through pulse oximetry via overnight studies, exercise, continuous and spot checks.
6. *Administers all therapy modalities to patients per physician orders.
7. *Performs VEST therapy.
8. *Performs basic operations on the Meditech system.
9. *Performs regular equipment rounds.
10. *Performs equipment cleaning and set up.
11. *Sets up and operates CPAP/Bi-Level therapy.
12. *Performs arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
13. *Adheres to established blood gas quality control protocol.
14. Performs trouble-shooting and maintenance of Blood Gas Machine as a Super User.
15. *Responds and participates in all code blue situations.
16. *Sets up and monitors NIPPV (non-invasive positive pressure ventilation) through both Bi-Level and Volume ventilation.
17. *Initiates, operates and monitors Adult mechanical ventilators.
18. *Assists in bedside therapeutic bronchoscopies.
19. ++ Performs diagnostic bronchoscopies.
20. Initiates, operates and monitors Nitric Oxide therapy.
21. Initiates, operates and monitors Heliox therapy.
What qualifications you will need:
EXPERIENCE:
Required: One year critical care experience.
Preferred: One year NICU/PICU experience. Knowledge and experience in basic floor care and mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, capnography and oximetry equipment.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
Required: Respiratory Therapist I: Virginia Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (Licensed Respiratory Therapist – Code CardioPL07 in Lawson – OR State Registered Respiratory Therapist – Code CardioPL14 in Lawson)
Maintain NBRC credentials for Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist (Lawson Codes: CardioPL 03 OR CardioPL05 OR CardioPL11 OR CardioPL12)
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care
NRP Certification for all working in the NICU.
Preferred: Registry-eligible Respiratory Therapist
Registered Respiratory Therapist
NBRC Perinatal/Pediatric Specialty Exam passed
CPFT
PALS, or ACLS certificates
