Job Summary and Qualifications
The RRT Extern assists Registered Respiratory Therapists (RRTs) in providing respiratory care to patients under direct supervision. This position offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a clinical setting while working towards becoming a licensed RRT. The RRT Extern will perform assigned duties and tasks related to respiratory therapy, contributing to the overall care and well-being of patients.
- Assist RRTs in the delivery of respiratory care treatments and procedures.
- Monitor patients' respiratory status and report changes to the supervising RRT.
- Maintain and clean respiratory equipment.
- Document patient care activities accurately and completely.
- Participate in educational opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Assist with the administration of aerosolized medications.
- Assist with oxygen therapy delivery and monitoring.
- Assist with airway clearance techniques.
- Monitor ventilator settings and patient response under direct supervision.
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and cleaning.
- Document patient treatments and observations in the electronic medical record.
- Assist with patient transport and positioning.
What qualifications you will need:
- No prior work experience required. Clinical rotations as part of the Respiratory Therapy program are beneficial.
- Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- NH RRT Extern License
- Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date
