Position Summary:
CVS Health is seeking a Software Development Engineer to design, develop, and deliver software solutions that advance the modernization, automation, and AI-driven transformation of CVS Health applications and supporting platforms.
The engineer will contribute to the full software development lifecycle — from design and implementation through testing, release, and continuous improvement — with a focus on AI-powered solutions, cloud adoption, legacy system modernization, and enterprise integration across the applications landscape.
What you will do:
Work closely with business partners, development teams, infrastructure teams, and vendors to deliver high-quality application enhancements, automation initiatives, and platform upgrades.
Contribute to the design, development, testing, and implementation of AI-driven solutions that improve business processes, operational efficiency, and decision-making capabilities.
Provide production support as a secondary responsibility, assisting in monitoring and maintaining production processes, batch jobs, file transfers, integrations, and data workflows that enable accurate data intake, validation, processing, and delivery.
Participate in troubleshooting production issues, supporting release deployments, and contributing to overall system stability, performance, and reliability.
Work across a diverse technology landscape, including legacy IBM i (AS400) platforms, modern cloud-based solutions, enterprise integration technologies, and emerging AI-powered applications.
Required Qualifications:
3 + years of hands-on software development experience, with a strong foundation in application design, implementation, and testing across enterprise environments including the following:
Experience developing or supporting AI, Agentic AI, Machine Learning (ML), or intelligent automation solutions, including familiarity with Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts, and agent-based architectures.
3 + years of proficiency with SQL, DB2, UNIX/Linux, and UNIX variants in a large-scale environment.
3 + years of working knowledge of cloud platforms, Windows Active Directory, networking protocols, batch scheduling, and high-volume data processing.
Experience with application production support (Level 1–3), incident management, and troubleshooting of enterprise systems.
Familiarity with monitoring tools, logging frameworks, and IT operations processes.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Healthcare industry domain knowledge.
Experience with legacy IBM i (AS400) platforms, enterprise systems, and emerging technologies.
Demonstrated ability to track and manage assigned projects from initiation through successful completion.
Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize work to achieve desired outcomes.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of management.
Strong analytical, reasoning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members to resolve technical and operational challenges.
Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities based on changing business needs.
Ability and willingness to follow established procedural guidelines with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Willingness to work flexible hours during peak periods and participate in a 24x7 on-call operating model.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$72,100.00 - $144,200.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
