Job Summary and Qualifications
The Surgical / OB Technician III will be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide assistance during surgical procedures performed in the department. The OB Technician III is experienced in all aspects of aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies as needed for their assigned cases; pulling cases as needed, breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. He/She is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The OB Technician III performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care delivery at SMC. Under direction of RN, provides assistance in patient care to assigned patients in accordance to patient care standards in a comprehensive manner through the use of nursing process. The Obstetrics Technician III performs clerical and receptionist duties in accordance with the philosophy, goals and objectives of SMC. The Surgical Technician may function in the role of. Call is required for position. Additionally, she is the charge technician, with surgical tech I and II reporting up to her while on shift or when needing guidance. OB Technician III may rotate to other areas other than surgery, and will perform those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. He/she will run OR cases, making sure efficiency and patient care are at its maximum. He/she will be responsible for policy adherence according to his/her job scope as well as organizing instrumentation stock and storage. The OB Technician III will be responsible for stocking ORs and sterile supplies as needed according to each physician’s needs. He/she will also be responsible with working with the scheduler for the unit and for the Main OR to assure the position is staffed appropriately to the unit’s standards and requirements.
Position Requirements:
Licensure/Certification/Registration:
Current BLS Certification through AHA or ARC, Colorado Surgical Tech Registration on DORA, Operating Room Technician Certification preferred.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited program for Operating Room Technicians.
Experience:
2 years experience as OR Technician.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic to advanced knowledge in the scrub role and responsibilities for all types of surgical procedures. Demonstrates good organizational skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
