Mid-Level Image Scientist
Description:
KBR is seeking a mid-level Image Scientist to support government customers in the Washington Metropolitan Area. The Image Scientist (mid) provides expertise in imagery science, imagery analysis, and photogrammetry that enables the detailed technical analysis of GEOINT product quality. The imagery scientists will provide oversight and continuity of knowledge to the team, as well as support the broad range of assessments and assessment tasks both independent and with senior guidance. This individual will also support algorithm development and validation related to imagery science tasks.
Responsibilities:
Provide imagery scientist support through accomplishment of technical reviews, consultations, oversight of proposed and executed GEOINT product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
Provide image processing algorithm validation and verification in support of GEOINT product quality assessments or ad hoc customer requests.
Provide imagery science services and analysis in support of GEOINT product quality assessments for the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems, products, and data formats; sensor fidelity assessment, pixel registration assessment, Tonal Transfer Curve assessments, Relative Edge Response assessment, MTF and Signal to Noise Ratio assessment, and other product quality parameters.
Support algorithm development in support of imagery science tasks and assessment of various product quality parameters.
Provide photogrammetric services and engineering in support of the full range of traditional and non-traditional imaging systems and products; assessment of product geolocation accuracy using verified geolocation of a known features, verifying mensuration accuracy through measurement of known objects, calculating ground sample distance, and other photogrammetric analyses as directed.
Provide imagery analyst support through technical review, consultation, and oversight of proposed and executed product quality assessments and studies, and strategic level product quality direction.
Provide imagery analyst services in support of GEOINT product quality assessment planning, execution, and results analysis; imagery review, artifact analysis, NIIRS evaluations (absolute NIIRS, delta NIIRS, and ENS NIIRS evaluations), display performance assessments, etc.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
A minimum of 4 – 7 years of experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in Imaging Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or related STEM field.
Working knowledge of Image Quality Equations (IQEs) to include creation and application.
Creation of and development of algorithm assessments.
Techniques for correction of system anomalies and artifacts.
Experience with creation of imagery evaluations, image quality studies, new product/sensor initializations, product algorithm assessments, and the development of image quality equations.
Working knowledge and practical application of modeling components of the image creation path to include sensor, detector, atmospheric, and material properties.
Experience with imaging systems to include PAN, IR, MSI/HSI, RADAR, and LIDAR, on both space or airborne platforms.
Simulation and modeling experience and ability to develop algorithm description documentation for software development.
Familiarity with current GEOINT systems, products and development, as well as exploitation software packages, and other software plug-ins or applications necessary to develop test and verification methodologies.
Strong Experience with SAR, IR, Spectral, LIDAR, ArcGIS, RSI ENVI, and photogrammetry.
Experience in applied image processing and scientific analysis of imagery (SAR, IR, Spectral, Lidar, photogrammetry), knowledge of image formation, and associated discipline phenomenology.
Experience in scientifically processing imagery (SAR, IR, Spectral, Lidar) from Civil and Commercial imaging systems, proficiency with techniques, algorithms, and scientific analysis of associated discipline data processing using RSI ENVI.
Ability to work in a very dynamic and demanding work environment.
