Job Description
The Transmission Operations Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of scheduled and live broadcasts by configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting transmission systems in a broadcast production environment. The role provides advanced technical support to maintain broadcast continuity and quickly resolve transmission and system issues as they arise.
This is a project/limited term position, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.
Job Duties:
- Responsible for rapidly responding to equipment failures and restoring transmission services across satellite, fiber, IP-based, and bonded cellular contribution and distribution paths.
- Communicates and escalates technical and operational issues to management and engineering teams, providing accurate information regarding troubleshooting, impact, and resolution
- Collaborates with Field Operations teams and provides advanced technical support in configuring and troubleshooting field transmission equipment, connectivity, and signal paths.
- Serves as the primary technical contact for resolving live feed issues, coordinating with field, remote, studio, production, and control room personnel to troubleshoot and restore services.
- Operates and troubleshoots various antenna control systems supporting satellite acquisition and transmission operations.
- Configures, monitors, and troubleshoots video-over-IP transmission workflows, including IP addressing, ports, encoding/decoding, signal transport, and contribution feeds.
- Configures, monitors, and troubleshoots bonded cellular transmission systems
- Monitors fixed and critical transmission paths, including network returns, taking immediate corrective action when signal degradation, and equipment failures.
- Collaborates with internal clients, production teams, vendors, and transmission providers to manage technical requirements, maintain production standards, and resolve complex transmission issues.
- Works under the direct supervision of Director, Technical Operations and the Supervisor, Technical Operations Center and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager or Supervisor as needed
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in a broadcast network distribution, satellite operations, or network engineering role
- Fluent English and Spanish (both written & verbal)
- Experience with Evertz video router panels, able to manipulate UDX setting in the router panels to adjust incoming signals
- Experience operating video adjustments of UDX’s for incoming signal adjustment, RTS system for Communications, VUE panel for the Evertz video router
- Experience in calibrating and utilizing a spectrum analyzer to define satellite signals, checking signal quality and anomalies
- Experience operating GUI for satellite decoders/encoders on and Technician level, understanding the fiber network, Video over IP infrastructure and bonded cell workflows.
- Exhibits advanced knowledge in understanding the equipment menu trees and the effects to the signal flow.
- Exhibits advanced knowledge working with various satellite, fiber and IP encoders and decoders
- Demonstrates ability to configure corresponding satellite transport encoders and various encoder parameters
- Demonstrates ability to read and understand a waveform monitor and adjust video quality and audio as well as understanding loudness levels
- Exhibits advanced knowledge of Evertz video router, UDX adjustment, remote source routing to production control rooms in a fast-paced environment.
- Exhibits knowledge of the immense fiber connectivity highway throughout the USA and LATAM
- Demonstrates strong knowledge of fiber-optic transmission infrastructure
- Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and operational experience with KU-Band and C-Band satellite downlink and uplink systems supporting live broadcast operations.
- Possesses strong knowledge of satellite transmission systems, including steerable antennas, satellite receivers and decoders, signal acquisition, frequency coordination, and associated transmission parameters.
- Demonstrates in-depth technical knowledge of satellite, fiber, video-over-IP, and bonded cellular transmission infrastructure, with the ability to quickly identify, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment, connectivity, and signal-related issues.

Additional Requirements:
- This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.
- Must be willing to work in Miami, Florida
- Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- The candidate must be willing to work flexible hours including late and/or last-minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 production work environment.
- Must be available to work (whenever necessary for show production) early mornings, evenings, holidays and weekends.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be covered by Solutions, NBCU’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Program
