Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building the next generation of cloud technologies that operate at massive scale. Our customers run some of the world's most demanding workloads, and our network products form the foundation of OCI's rapidly expanding global cloud footprint.
The Network Products Engineering organization defines, develops, qualifies, and delivers the networking products that power OCI data centers worldwide. We partner with hardware vendors, software engineering, network engineering, operations, supply chain, manufacturing, finance, and product organizations to deliver reliable, scalable networking solutions.
We are seeking a Principal Network Developer (IC4) to design and deliver advanced network products and capabilities across the product lifecycle. This individual contributor will independently own complex technical workstreams, translate requirements into implementable solutions, and help ensure OCI network products meet demanding standards for performance, reliability, scalability, and operational readiness.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, practical execution, and the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering and operational teams. The ideal candidate is comfortable solving ambiguous problems, driving well-scoped cross-functional efforts, and mentoring others through example and technical guidance.
Internal Responsibilities
Responsibilities
Design and develop advanced networking products and systems for scalable data center and cloud environments, building on established architectures and technical standards.
Translate customer, workload, and operational requirements into clear product requirements, designs, validation plans, and implementation approaches.
Own complex workstreams across the product lifecycle, including concept development, design, qualification, deployment readiness, and lifecycle improvement.
Validate network products and production environments; develop scaling strategies and recommend practical mitigations for complex technical risks.
Participate in solution architecture and design reviews, providing technical guidance on network requirements, system behavior, interoperability, and operational impacts.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to align hardware, firmware, software, optics, and platform capabilities with product and deployment needs.
Design and build reusable automation, tooling, dashboards, telemetry, and alerting capabilities that improve test coverage, operational visibility, and engineering efficiency.
Develop advanced test strategies and reusable test cases for network products; refine validation methods based on incidents, defects, and lessons learned.
Analyze network workflows, performance data, and capacity trends to identify inefficiencies and propose scalable improvements.
Create operational playbooks and technical documentation that enable consistent execution and resolution of complex network issues.
Lead team-level technical discussions and well-scoped cross-functional initiatives; communicate decisions, risks, and milestones clearly to stakeholders.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a high-quality engineering culture through reviews, knowledge sharing, and practical technical coaching.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of experience designing, developing, validating, automating, or deploying large-scale networking infrastructure, ideally in cloud, service provider, or large data center environments.
Strong understanding of modern data center networking, including Clos fabrics, Ethernet switching, IP routing, BGP, EVPN-VXLAN, MPLS, Segment Routing, and traffic engineering.
Experience with network product development or qualification, including hardware validation, interoperability testing, deployment readiness, and lifecycle management.
Experience with network automation, scripting, configuration management, telemetry, observability, and operational tooling.
Working knowledge of network platforms, merchant silicon or network ASIC concepts, optical networking, and high-speed interconnect technologies.
Experience collaborating with hardware, software, network engineering, operations, manufacturing, supply chain, and external equipment or component vendors.
Demonstrated ability to independently solve complex technical problems, influence decisions through sound engineering judgment, and deliver results across teams.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to engineering and operational stakeholders.
