Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director, Patient Safety is responsible for directing, planning, organizing, and leading programs, activities, and functions to advance the patient safety program, promote a culture of safety and the elimination of avoidable harm at Round Rock Medical Center.
- You will develop and review hospital and/or department policies and procedures for compliance and effectiveness.
- You will develop, implement, and review goals, objectives, and priorities, ensuring alignment with hospital strategic plans.
- You will ensure departmental quality/PI plans and activities are ongoing.
- You will prepare budgets, productivity, and other operational activities.
- You will monitor regulatory compliance for functions and ensure improvement to maintain compliance.
- You will conduct and/or ensure overall hospital program assessments at least annually.
- You will ensure programs meet requirements and enhance improvements in operations, etc.
- You will assist in or direct the resolution of patient issues, complaints, grievances, incidents, etc.
- You will evaluate program plans annually; and develop a plan and goals for the next year.
- You will review contracts and professional service agreements for the identification and elimination of potential risk exposures and adequacy of professional liability insurance requirements, as requested.
- You will coordinate the development of corrective action or improvement plans.
- You will assist personnel and others with conflicts, and issues, and respond to adverse patient outcomes and other incidents, and complaints.
- You will provide support and serve as a resource to medical staff, hospital leadership, Board of Trustees, etc. as necessary regarding programs, functions, and activities.
- You will provide timely trend reports to appropriate hospital, medical staff, Board, committees, etc.
- You will provide reports and data to HCA Department of Risk and Patient Safety, Ethics and Compliance, HCI, etc. as necessary.
- You will review, update and maintain loss run reports provided by HCI.
- You will provide notification to HCI Department of Claims and Risk and Patient Safety in the event of critical adverse events and other claims. Notifies HCA Ethics and Compliance of regulatory outcome, and reportable events. Maintain statistics and files; e.g. events, claims, etc.
- You will assist HCI and Ethics and Compliance staff, contracted investigators, and defense attorneys in the investigation and defense of claims, complaints, etc.

What qualifications you will need:
- Baccalaureate degree (healthcare related degree preferred).
- Certification in Patient Safety through National Patient Safety Foundation (CPPS) required within 12 months of hire.
- Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation- preferred
