Job Summary and Qualifications
As a Dietitian – Bariatric, you will play a critical role within the Bariatric program by providing specialized, evidenced-based nutritional counseling and care to pre-surgical, post-surgical, and medically managed bariatric patients. The role as Bariatric Clinical Dietitian will require independent decision making, as well as close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including physician leaders.
What you will do in this role:
- As a Dietitian – Bariatric, you will independently perform specialized nutritional assessment, evaluation and planning for all patients within the bariatric program based on deep understanding of bariatric-specific nutrition, physiology, and the psychological aspects of weight management.
- You will serve as integral part of the multidisciplinary bariatric care team to help deliver comprehensive and specialized care.
- You will make clinical recommendations to physicians based on expertise.
- You will advise multidisciplinary team on individual and unique nutritional needs of each bariatric patient.
- You will maintain high standards of nutritional care and coordinate the nutritional care with all caregivers in the Bariatric setting.
- You will address complications related to nutrition with specialized interventions based on evidenced based research.
- You will perform individual and detailed discharge education for all elective bariatric surgery patients.
- You will develop and maintain nutritional care plans per latest evidenced based research and clinical protocols.
- You will be responsible for ensuring all pre-surgical requirements are completed for each patient.
- You will spearhead educational initiatives, including workshops, seminars, and webinars for patients and healthcare professionals.
- You will independently lead support groups or one-on-one sessions to foster community, motivation, and continued learning for patients.
- You will regularly review/update bariatric surgery patient manual based on latest evidenced based research and clinical protocols.
- You will represent the bariatric program through community-based health fairs and speaking events as requested.
- You will host monthly bariatric seminars and lead post-seminar communication with surgeons.
What qualifications you will need:
- You must have a Bachelor Degree in Food and Nutrition or related field
- You must be licensed by the State of Texas or must obtain license within 4 months of hire.
- You must be Registered/Registered eligible with the American Dietetic Association
