This per diem position will be supporting patients in the Children's Emergency Department and throughout Sunrise Children's Hospital during the evening hours and on the weekends. Maintaining active PRN status will require a minimum of 3 shifts worked every 4 weeks.
Job Summary and Qualifications
- As the Child Life Specialist, you will function under the supervision of the Manager of Child and Family Services and perform delegated functions. You will be a professional member of the multidisciplinary health care team who provides for the developmental, psychosocial, emotional and cognitive needs of hospitalized children of all ages (neonate, infant, child and adolescent) and their families as they interact with the health care environment
- You will plan, coordinate and conduct therapeutic learning and play experiences to promote patient’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive development during hospitalization and should demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses ability to collect data reflective a patient status
- You will complete an orientation skills checklist within 3 months of employment and will provide general social and emotional support to pediatric patients and their families during their inpatient hospital stay
- You should be trained in the developmental needs of infants – adolescents, Child Life Specialists provide on-going opportunities for play, diversional activities, self-expression, and interaction with other hospitalized patients
- Program goals are to provide positive, developmentally supportive experiences, which assist patients in reducing fear and anxiety associated with hospitalization. You will also be involved in training, pediatric volunteers, and nursing staff in the social, emotional, and cognitive needs of pediatric patients
- As the Child Life Specialist, you will be responsible for supporting patients in the Children's Emergency Department and throughout Sunrise Children's Hospital
What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Child Life, Child Development, Counseling Psychology or a closely related field is required
- Completion of Child Life Internship(600 hours) is required
- Certified Child Life Specialist certification required
- CPR - BLS is required within 30 days of hire
- Experience: Minimum one-year experience working with children in a health care setting preferred
