The Raytheon Mechanical Engineering (ME) Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of radar, sonar, torpedo, and combat system equipment. The ME Team uses state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. ME’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development, and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration, and production support.
The ADGE department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer – Team Lead, located in Tewksbury, MA.
This is an on-site role.
The Section Leader is responsible for management of the engineering staff supporting the air defense systems LTAMDS Radar Infrastructure mechanical design team. They and their direct reports will support the design, equipment integration, major end item development, vendor support, and sustainment of the existing radars. The individual will support and lead multi-disciplined engineering teams and provide mechanical solutions and services across all program phases including proposal development. Areas of focus can encompass development of next generation LTAMDS radar systems, design development for existing products, transition to production, product support, vendor oversight, and field upgrades.
What You Will Do
Provide direct line management and leadership for 15-25 highly skilled mechanical engineers.
Served as the liaison to the programs and Integrated Product Teams concerning staffing assignments, forecasting, and resource allocation.
Oversee technical performance of individual contributors and engineering leads. Provide technical guidance and project support throughout the product life cycle. Support and oversee Technical Data Package Development and peer reviews.
Responsible for employee technical development, leadership development, mentoring, motivating, training, and recognition.
Conduct performance reviews and support recruitment and retention efforts.
Lead and support Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization initiatives to improve productivity and efficiency.
Oversee mid to large sized cross functional engineering teams as a technical execution lead through all phases of development from proposal generation, program start up, requirements allocation, preliminary design, detailed development, and first article production.
Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
Support the factory and suppliers with product integration domestically and internationally.
Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges to support production milestones.
Meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals.
Mentor and guide lead engineers and junior engineers.
Qualifications You Must Have
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical degree, and 8 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with a minimum four (4) years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments.
Experience in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes, for electronic assemblies and equipment packaging.
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and tolerance analysis.
Experience with managing engineering budgets with Earned Value Management (EVMS) and Estimate at Complete (EAC) process.
Experience in supporting or leading proposals, including Risk & Opportunity Management.
Active and transferable U.S. government issued secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Experience leading engineering teams with cost and schedule responsibility.
Mechanical design experience, including concept definition through detailed design and transition to production and production support.
Ability to work collaboratively in an Integrated Product Team environment, interfacing with multiple Engineering disciplines, Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, IPT Leadership, Program Managers, and Customers, including Agile product development methods.
Working knowledge or experience with LTAMDS air defense systems ground equipment, ground-based missile launchers and missile design.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
