Job Summary and Qualifications
Under general supervision initiates, assesses, and evaluates all forms of respiratory therapy including bronchodilators, chest physical therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive and invasive ventilator care. Exercises technical knowledge in respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pathology as well as the design and operations of all respiratory therapy equipment. The RCP demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adult and geriatric patients.
What you will do in this role:
- To know and understand the objectives, policies and procedures.
- Verifies and signs all new orders for respiratory care.
- Assures that all physicians Responsible for the recognition, interpretation, and recording of signs and
- Responsible for the initiation and maintenance of cardiopulmonary
- The prevention of contamination and of transfer of infection, through
- Responsible for knowing the mechanics of ventilation and ventilatorfunction.
- Responsible for knowing the principles of airway maintenance, including
- endotracheal and tracheotomy care.
- The effective and safe use of equipment for administering oxygen and other
- therapeutic gases and for providing humidification, nebulization, and medication.
- To know and understand the principles of arterial blood gas analysis, acid-base
- balance and demonstrated competence in obtaining arterial blood gas samples.
- To know and understand the methods that assist in the removal of secretions
- from the bronchial tree, such as hydration, breathing and coughing exercises,
- postural drainage, therapeutic percussion and vibration, and mechanical clearing
- of the airway through proper suctioning technique.
- Responsible for procedures and observation to be followed during and after extubating.
- Responsible for the recognition of and attention to the psychosocial needs of patients and their families.
- To know the operating principles of the equipment and all safety aspects
- related to equipment and gases, including the control of electrical, flammable, explosive, and mechanical hazards.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- (NBRC-CRT) Certified Respiratory Therapist
