Job Summary and Qualifications
- Performs or supervises the proper compounding, preparation, labeling and dispensing of medication prescriptions, in accordance with state and federal regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
- Reviews all physician orders for appropriateness of medication orders and performs or supervises the compounding, preparation, labeling, and dispensing of these medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and hospital policies and procedures.
- Influences others through facts and sound rationale in a way that encourages them to work toward hospital goals.
- Provides clinical supervision as needed.
- Supervises, assists, and helps train pharmacy technicians and students in all functions performed.
- Assists the pharmacy director in maintaining security of the pharmacy and scheduled drug control throughout the hospital.
- Completes, reviews, and maintains all written records and computer generated records.
- Consults with physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to provide drug information, perform consults, or provide other “clinical” services. Provides “clinical Pharmacy” and/or distributive services as defined and requested by the Clinical Manager, and DOP.
- Assists the DOP in drug procurement, receiving, storage, inventory control and floor stock control.
- Accurately performs clinical drug monitoring and assists the physicians in calculating patient specific dosing based on Creatinine Clearance values, drug or lab levels, and physician requests.
- Ongoing monitoring of high-risk areas , i.e. high-risk medications.
- Familiar with the operation of the department. Must be able to function in an appropriate staff capacity, as scheduling and patient need demands.
- Collaborates with physicians, nurses, special service technicians , and the patient to provide on-going monitoring of the medications effect on the patient, including the assessment of the potential for adverse events.
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy by providing education to physicians, nursing, pharmacy personnel, and to support nursing and patient education efforts toward patient teaching.
- Keeps pharmacist license current and provides Director of Pharmacy with most current copy for employee file.
