Do you want to work at the intersection of satellite communications, networking, and systems engineering — validating the complete path that connects a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites to customers around the world?
As a Network Development Engineer on the Satellite Systems Integration and Test team, you will lead hands-on integration and testing of satellite communications and ground-network capabilities. You will work across RF, networking, wireless protocols, embedded software, cloud services, and test automation to bring new features from initial lab integration through end-to-end validation. This role is built for an engineer who thrives on collecting evidence, analyzing packet captures and logs, understanding RF link behavior, and driving ambiguous problems to root cause. You will collaborate with systems, hardware, software, RF, networking, and operations teams to pinpoint whether issues originate in the satellite payload, RF link, gateway, customer terminal, transport network, or cloud service.
Key job responsibilities
- Own end-to-end integration and validation of satellite communications features across the satellite payload, ground gateways, customer terminals, transport networks, and cloud services — developing and executing test campaigns that cover functionality, performance, reliability, scale, and failure recovery.
- Troubleshoot complex system issues using packet captures, system logs, telemetry, RF measurements, and tools such as tcpdump, Wireshark, and iperf to isolate packet loss, latency, session failures, and throughput degradation across the full communications stack.
- Automate test execution, data collection, log processing, performance analysis, and reporting using Python or similar languages, and build repeatable processes that improve team efficiency and consistency.
- Collaborate with RF and test-equipment vendors to expand lab capabilities, bring up new test configurations, and reproduce operational issues in a controlled environment.
- Communicate technical findings clearly to cross-functional teams, drive root-cause investigations to resolution, and mentor engineers on integration, troubleshooting, and validation practices.
A day in the life
You might start the morning reviewing results from an overnight automated test run, correlating RF link conditions with network-layer performance data to identify a regression. After a brief sync with the RF and software teams, you shift to hands-on lab work — configuring a channel emulator to reproduce a throughput issue reported during satellite operations. In the afternoon, you document your findings, update the team dashboard, and pair with a colleague to refine a Python script that automates a manual verification step.
About the team
The Satellite Systems Integration and Test team validates the complete communications path that connects Amazon's Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation to customers worldwide. We work across satellite payloads, ground gateways, customer terminals, transport networks, and cloud services to ensure every new capability meets performance and reliability expectations before it reaches production. Our mission is to help bring affordable, low-latency broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities, and we are always looking for curious, collaborative engineers who want to solve hard problems at scale.
