Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for the repair and maintenance of electronic and electro-mechanical equipment such as electro- mechanical traffic signals and control equipment. Exercises no supervision.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Work Hours

This position requires a flexible schedule, including availability for evenings and weekends.

Essential Job Functions

Inspects, repairs, maintains, and tests digital solid-state, alarm, data, and analog microprocessor traffic signal and control systems.
Assists in wiring new equipment and modifying existing equipment.
Troubleshoots, isolates, and replaces or repairs faulty unit components.
Programs various types of traffic signal and control equipment.
Performs preventive maintenance on electro-mechanical and electronic equipment.
Builds test equipment and cables to perform equipment repair and test functions.
Documents all work performed in the field and in the shop.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
One (1) year of experience in electronic troubleshooting or completion of formal training program in electronics.
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Experience operating parking-specific hardware and software, including kiosks and meters.
Experience with flatwork and concrete installation for pads and signage.

Applicant Information

Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of solid-state electronics, logic gates, digital, analog timing circuits, microprocessors, oscillators, and electronic measuring and testing equipment.
Knowledge of electronic troubleshooting techniques.
Knowledge of Alternating Current/Direct Current (AC/DC) theory.
Knowledge of programming, traffic phasing, and timings.
Knowledge of hazards and safety measures as they relate to electronics and the electrical trade.
Skill in utilizing electronic measuring equipment, including a multichannel oscilloscope, frequency counter, digital voltmeter, volt ohm meter, diagnosis intervention unit, peripheral test set, protocol analyzer, capacitor/inductor analyzer, loop insulator detector, amp probe meter, cable/conduit locator, "NEMAL's" and "170's" controller tester.
Skill in utilizing power hand tools.
Skill in operating a small and large "Hi-ranger" bucket truck and a 3/4 ton truck.
Skill in utilizing a concrete cutter.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position.
