This position is located at the Air Force Research Laboratory Sensors Directorate, Trusted Electronics Branch. The Trusted Electronics Branch develops design, integration, and verification techniques for digital, radiofrequency (RF), and mixed signal integrated circuits including integrated circuit integrity and reliability, embedded power-efficient processing, and reconfigurable computing. These complex technologies form the trusted building blocks critical to high performance signal processing within size, weight, power, and cost constraints for future high performance Air Force applications.
Job Summary
KBR is seeking a highly motivated engineer to contribute to on-going R&D efforts in an emerging field of advanced microscopy. The ideal candidate exhibits excellent communication skills, is eager to learn, and is excited to work in a multi-disciplinary team working in a laboratory environment. As a collaborative member of the Trusted Electronics Branch you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of novel microelectronics and advanced materials. You will also have opportunities to participate in seminars and workshops, and document results through presentations and journal publications.
Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include research and development tasks associated with the analysis and maturation of advanced microelectronics. Tasks will include:
1) Hands-on use of Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) equipment to inspect and analyze prototype micro circuitry designs
2) Learning and utilizing additional microscopy techniques (Acoustic, X-ray, EDS) in an effort to verify electronic devices and solve other complex engineering problems
3) Maintain periodic maintenance of microscopes and work with service engineers to ensure repairs are completed in a timely manner
4) Keep up-to-date with relevant scientific and technical developments related to current and future research
5) Provide data analysis, and generation of reports and presentations to convey progress and results
Basic Qualifications
•Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or related field and 2 years of experience in the related field
•Experience using SEM and/or FIB equipment
•Experience using common optical microscopes
•Ability to think critically to apply microscopy expertise in support of process development
•Self-motivated, with strong communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in a team environment across different disciplines
•Ability to obtain a DoD secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or related field
- Advanced microscopy technique experience (SAM, X-ray CT, EDS, EBIC, TEM sample prep, laser confocal)
- Experience using layout software (KLayout, SolidWorks)
- Undergraduate GPA > 3.0
