About the Role
The Assistant Director, Technology & Programs is responsible for overseeing the exploration, implementation, and strategic alignment of technology initiatives within the Manufacturing Advancement department at IALR. This role supports the adoption and integration of advanced technologies into training programs and operations at the Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA), with a focus on Industry 4.0. The Assistant Director ensures that technology initiatives align with industry needs, trends, and certifications while serving as a subject matter expert.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Oversee technology strategy, exploration, and implementation for Manufacturing Advancement.
• Support technology adoption in training programs and CMA operations.
• Drive Industry 4.0 integration across IALR and industry.
• Manage specialized technology programs to align with industry needs.
• Lead data collection and automation strategies for program reporting.
• Ensure all technology initiatives align with industry trends, serving as a subject matter expert.
• Manage workforce development goals, plans, and outcomes in collaboration with stakeholders.
• Maintain relationships with industry partners and stakeholders.
• Ensure alignment between certifications and program outcomes.
• Execute continuous improvement initiatives in project management, LMS, and student data systems.
• Support skills competitions and track program goals, budgets, and expenses.
• Oversee budget control, vendor quotes, and consumable needs for workforce programs.
• Perform other duties as needed.
Work Location
IALR's Campus in Danville, VA.
The Ideal Candidate
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Technology, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in advanced manufacturing, Industry 4.0 technologies, or technology-driven program management.
• Proven experience in technology adoption, integration, and strategy development within a manufacturing or training environment.
• Strong background in data collection, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to manage workforce development programs and collaborate with industry stakeholders.
• Experience in budget management, project management, and vendor relations.
• Knowledge of industry certifications and alignment with workforce development goals.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a focus on technology deployment and continuous improvement.

• Must be able to move freely between facilities
• Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard
