KBR is seeking to identify a candidate for a Human Systems Engineering Department Manager position within the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) at the NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. The selected candidate will report directly to the Program Manager and will be responsible for the following disciplines:
- Human Factors
- Project Management
- Project Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Design and Fabrication
- Hardware Testing
- Sustaining Engineering and Integration
- Food Production
The Engineering Department manager will play a pivotal role in shaping the department’s efficiency, directly influencing how projects are executed, resources are allocated, and team members are supported to achieve organizational goals.
The selected candidate serves as the primary customer interface for the NASA Human Health and Performance Division Chief and appropriate NASA Engineering Directorate Division Chiefs. They provide strategic and technical oversight for the department and serve as the KBR administrative manager for KBR managers within the department and for additional staff, as required. Performs both strategic and tactical planning for meeting performance goals and resource allocation.
Responsibilities:
The position’s responsibilities include leading approximately 200 employees, coordinating resource prioritization and allocation, and ensuring that the team’s responsibilities are completed within budget and schedule. In addition, the candidate will be expected to identify strategic approaches to exceed customer expectations, identify areas of cross-department and cross-contract collaboration and be responsible for handling administrative tasks associated with the department’s leadership and administrative personnel such as performance rating, merit planning, career development, succession planning, technical and leadership training, disciplinary actions, and other duties as assigned.
The candidate must have experience with leading complex hardware projects, integrating with other organizations, and interacting and meeting the needs of the customer. The candidate relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. The candidate negotiates with other department managers for access to resources to support integrated projects, ensures contract wide management policies and procedures are effectively implemented, and enables integration, collaboration, and innovation to exceed customer expectations.
The candidate identifies corrective and preventive actions and drives those to closure, implements lessons learned and best practices, and participates in/presents to company and customer status reviews. The candidate also ensures compliance with KBRs Safety, Health and Environmental Plan and all safety policies and procedures of the Company, compliance with KBR’s Quality Plan and completion of all assigned training.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Demonstrated project monitoring and control experience
- Familiarity with NASA Flight Hardware development requirements and processes
- Familiarity with the identification and execution of process Improvement Initiatives
- Familiarity with project management practices and working with Business Office/Program Office on staffing and other financial challenges
- Participation with Corporate Entities including but not limited to Business Development on behalf of proposal development, contract collaboration, and strategic initiatives
- Demonstrated leadership experience on complex technical projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage resources, priorities and customer communication
- Effective at handling multiple tasks, flexible, and responds quickly to change
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to interact across organizations and all levels of personnel
- Demonstrated leadership qualities to inspire and build a culture of teamwork and quality
Requirements:
- Required Bachelor’s degree in a related Engineering field
- Minimum of 10 years progressive relevant technical/management experience
- Preferred 15 years relevant overall experience
Familiarity with NASA contracts and processes desired
