Illustrator
KBR is seeking a talented Graphic Designer/Illustrator to support our technical documentation efforts in Orange Park, FL. This position involves designing and developing graphics and illustrations for use in technical materials, manuals, and publications. The ideal candidate will work closely with technical writers, engineers, and subject matter experts to create high-quality visual content. You will operate computer hardware and software to prepare, revise, print, and store text, illustrations, graphs, charts, and more. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for rendering concept art and technical illustrations based on various sources, including models, sketches, and verbal instructions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and develop graphics and illustrations for technical materials, manuals, and publications, collaborating with technical writers and subject matter experts to ensure alignment with project requirements and accuracy.
- Prepare, revise, print, and store various types of content using computer hardware and software, including converting source files (.AI, .PDF, .PNG, etc.) to CGM format output.
- Render concept art and technical illustrations based on models, sketches, memory, written or verbal instructions, and imagination while selecting type and laying out material according to style and reproduction requirements.
- Research, write, edit, and proofread technical data for documents, manuals, procedures, and specifications, ensuring that technical documentation is complete and accurate by working with internal and external customers.
- Represent the company professionally in multiple complex meetings, coordinate with internal support organizations and external partners, and assist in establishing style guidelines for text and illustrations while performing all other assigned duties.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Security Clearance & Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen. Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance.
Education: Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of related experience or 10 years of equivalent experience in lieu of formal education.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Experience with XML integrated graphics (e.g., hotspots).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with military technical documents, delivery, and integrated logistics support (ARs, MIL STDs, MIL-PRFs, IETMs, TPDRs, DIDs, etc.) is recommended; naval aviation maintenance experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint.
- Knowledge of ASD S1000D process Data Modules.
- Experience with SDI Editor, VizEx Editor, IsoDraw, SolidWorks, and/or Catia is a plus.
- Understanding of Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development procedures using S1000D and DoD MIL-STDs, including Document Type Definitions and style sheets.
- Experience with the EAGLE Publishing System or the NAVAIR Enterprise Common Source Data Base (highly desirable).
- Ability to prepare draft materials for internal review by subject matter experts and final review by customers.
- Flexibility to adapt to new information and programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong ability to research, review, and understand technical information to develop procedural documentation.
- Capability to translate written requests into visual illustrations through collaboration and iterative processes based on user requirements and engineering data.
- Flexibility in work hours to accommodate surge situations based on critical mission requirements.
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week.
